If you want to use APEX for your research consider the following points:
- Read about the telescope and the available instrumentation and their characteristics to see if they are suited for your project.
- Each proposal must be accompanied by an accurate estimate of the necessary observing time needed to complete the project, based on the required sensitivity and the receiver characteristics. - Check the rules and dates for proposal submission, depending on the partner queue.
- Check the yearly Science schedule with the distribution of allocated times for each partner.
- Observations at APEX are normally done in service mode. They are carried out by the APEX staff together with visiting astronomers from the APEX partners. For questions, please contact the Head of Science Operations.
- Once your proposal is accepted, you need to prepare the observations. This basically means you need to inform the APEX staff about everything which is important for carrying out your observations, including source coordinates, receiver setup, possible pointing sources, observing procedures, etc.
- Check all about the APEX data, including format, reduction software and access to the archival data.
- If you come to APEX to serve as service support visiting astronomer, you can take some minutes to evaluate your observing mission at APEX using the end-of-mission report. We appreciate your feedback!
